Don't know what a collagraph is? No worries, join us for Discover Collagraphs!
Discover Collagraphs! is a public outreach and education program by Seattle-area artist Eunice Kim. The presentation, designed to bring and introduce the medium of collagraphy to a wider audience, will comprise three parts:
(1) introductory slide lecture on collagraphy and its history
(2) printing demonstration
(3) workshop wherein attendees will have the opportunity to print collagraph plates created by the artist specifically for the event
The collagraph is a uniquely flexible and accessible printmaking medium that transforms humble, everyday material into lush printed marks. Printmaking--as a visual art genre, however, is generally unavailable to the general public due to sheer cost of equipment, as well as the studio-bound nature of a typical full-scale printmaking press. To overcome these obstacles, Eunice Kim will employ a portable "baby" printmaking press during the program, to deliver this fabulous yet lesser known art form to new audience.
Project's first inaugural event will take place on Saturday, February 8, 2014 at the Kent Commons, from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm. All ages are welcome; children under 12 years of age must be accompanied by adult. The program is free and open to public.
Come out and Discover Collagraphs!
This program is made possible in part by 4Culture, Akua Inks, and City of Kent Arts Commission.
